Delving into Thought and Reasoning in the Era of Artificial Intelligence
We live in an era where artificial intelligence (AI) is becoming an integral part of our everyday lives and industries. With AI stepping into numerous roles that were traditionally occupied by humans, it becomes vital to consider the unique human elements such as instinct, emotion, and experiential knowledge in the decision-making process.
Emotions and Ideas in the Age of AI
The philosophy of David Hume, an 18th-century thinker, provides valuable insights in this context. Hume emphasized the attachment of passion to ideas, a sentiment that holds relevance today as AI develops in leaps and bounds. AI's decision-making heavily relies on data. However, emotions and passion associated with these data points often require our interpretation to provide an essential context.
Broadening Perspectives: Rationality and Travel
Experiences, such as travel, have the potential to highlight the limitations of our rationality. As humans, our reasoning is shaped by our empirical experiences. Although certain instinctual knowledge such as understanding gravity or the act of walking may seem obvious, it's important to acknowledge their immense significance. While these abilities may appear as strictly biological, they profoundly affect our engagement with the world.
The Involvement of AI in Data Analysis
It's natural considering the advancement of AI that it should handle data gathering and interpretation. While sophisticated mathematical reasoning may pose a challenge to AI programs like GPT-4, the future holds the promise of overcoming these hurdles with evolving AI methodologies and machine learning in combination with traditional software.
A Societal Mosaic: Rationalists and Empirical Thinkers
In my observations, there seems to be a split between those leaning towards analytical, rational thinking, and those swaying more toward decisions based on lived experiences and emotions. Young smart students, particularly boys, lean more towards rational thinking. They tend to pride themselves with how intelligent they are. Factors such as age, pride, or insecurity could influence these observations.
A Shift in Perception: A Personal Journey
In recent times, my perspective has evolved. I've grown to be humbler and have started reaching towards more meaningful goals. Interactions with various individuals have contributed to this transformation. Well educated individuals have the capacity to devleop both end of specturum. If there's a value in education, teaching children both mode of philosophers is still only possible through human intervention even in the age of AI.
While rationality is admirable in the pursuit of truth, the openness to having one’s opinions and thoughts corrected or altered signifies intellectual growth.
