I had a luxury to read this 2008 book in 2021. That let me fact-check a lot of his claim. That was especially interesting since one of the Ray's future guy was from 2023. Some predictions came true like artificial kidney (and artificial ovary on the way), while something like fat insulin receptor gene looks still shady today. My judgement approach was this: first look up Ray's prediction on the internet. If the pop science articles or ordinary universities are talking about it today after 10 years. Then that must be a true way to go.

What I had trouble looking up the progress is major science papers only conclude with the challenges facing these technologies such as early cancer detection as if that's the politically correct way to conclude the paper. They never endorse the technology that has become successful. That made it difficult to see how much progress has been actually made.

Overall the book is very well rounded. It's perfect to bring you up in health knowledge. I particularly like that he's less biased. Most health gurus have too much in the take: they might be nutrient consultant or publishing their research domain. Instead, Ray is already established in the AI field. Although he and Terry Grossman do sell vitamins in the website, his livehood does not depend on the health guideline.

Even though Ray gets some predictions wrong, there are positive ways he does (or didn't know). The book does not mention about gut microbe. That seems to be a nout-of-nowhere major discovery in the last decade. Sweet. (he doesn't mention about keto either, but that one is still controversial.)

I'm also surprised that the book mentions about resveratrol and David Sinclair. We all know David from his book Lifespan (2018). That's when the mainstream caught up on his research about resveratrol and sirtuins. I am amazed at Ray's ability to research thoroughly in the field and such frontier. The book can play a good baseline for our healthcare. I'm really excited for his coming book.

Last note: I wanted to read this book. Though I'm still relatively young for the book's target audience, I figured it'd be easier to change behavior at this moment. Now, I can start looking for alternative and find a way to cook and eat delicious vegetables.
